facebook will take over the web

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

so, gradually, what little i did outside of facebook seems to be getting ignored or absorbed into facebook’s apps.  I’m sure i’m not the first guy to point this out.  Surely classmates/reunion/etc… are all going to suffer.  I think another one is linkedin.  As soon as facebook has a professional edge/area, out goes linkedin.  I guess time will prove me right or wrong, stay tuned and tune back in a couple of years…

My new 15″ macbook pro

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Uh… nice…   was going to get the 13, but basically i need that 2 inches, did the amortization over 3 years and figured it was an extra 300/year, or say $6 week…   You get the idea…

Now… I need a wrist pad wrest, as it scratches AND scratches my watch and we don’t want that watch scratched further, as the old g4 powerbook ate some of that metal for some hot metal on metal love.

You get the idea.. .More later.. very exciting..

Hotel Television Cable Systems - They Suck

Monday, January 5th, 2009

So i am sitting here and stewing about various things, like usual. What should i rag on? Well, it is a universally, obvious problem. the tv systems suck and it has few channels and few benefits, and they make all their money off of pay per view porn. So for all of us that have to suffer through their crappy system, we have to watch a limited set of channels, with some useless info channels that add no value, etc… why not just bail on all that crud and just get direct tv, or comcast, etc.???   Cable of any sort has to be better than the lowsy “system” they use to try to get you into just using and buying some porn, which people are probably all just downloading now a days anyway to save money!

United Airline’s Award Winning Magazine

Monday, January 5th, 2009

So i sit there on the plane across the country… It is crowded and there is little leg room in the trailor park part of coach seating. So at some point i pick up the magazine in the back of the seat pocket.  It clearly has some sort of stained liquid on it so i swap it for the neighbor’s. And what a surprise… It is an award winning magazine!  What award it won, i got no idea. In fact who the hell cares, and who the hell decides that any shitty airline magazine would win anything in the first place?  Someone find United airlines and answer me! (more…)

Vendor Chotckis (however you spell it)

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

So, i have been thinking about this a lot. In the past i had the following for requirements for giving away freebies as a company to customers, this was 10 years ago so things have changed a bit, because the audience has changed. So this was the original requirements list: (more…)

Curious George, Max & Ruby or Franklin? Pick your poison

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

So we tape (DVR) a few shows for our 2.5 year old to watch. Having previewed the series i find some disturbing trends in each of them and a few lessons learned. Given that he seems to have bailed on Thomas & Friends, as well as Sesame Street, i had to find some other options. They all have some drawbacks, here’s a rundown of the 3 we are on these days, Curious George (a destructive monkey), Max & Ruby (2 bunnies that don’t seem to have parents) and Franklin (a turtle who has a name but none of his friends do).

Women need reliable cars, doods don’t

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

So i got a beater car. It is a 1999 vw passat. There are scraps on both sides of it, and it hasn’t been washed in a long time. It has 50k miles on it, so that is basically 5k miles a year, quite low. I drive 4 miles each way to work, more or less 4 days a week, plus various trips to the airport (17 each way) and other offices now and then. We also have a new 2008 Subaru Outback. (more…)

Babies cause tennis elbow

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I swear i got tennis elbow in my left arm from holding our baby. So therefore babies cause tennis elbow in the opposite arm that you would get the tennis elbow in, since you are not in as good of “arm shape” as you are in your dominant arm. I think it will either go away or get better gradually, the main thing is rocking our Fritz to sleep in your arms is a constant 45 degree bend in that elbow and voila!  Tennis elbow.

The week that isn’t

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

So if you are reading this live, Monday the 29th is tomorrow. If you are reading this dead, this is an old post. Regardless… Why operate a business that is open between xmas and new year’s? It just doesn’t seem like a good use of your employee’s time and that extra week off should be tacked on or give them 50% pay or something during that week instead of making them come to the office and fill their faces with xmas cookie leftovers, long lunches, late arrivals and early dismissals?

At one employer i used this week to redo and improve some internal systems, since it was uninterrupted time, but at others it was just a dead zone and many customers are also on hiatius at this time.  Make up your own mind, but for many businesses it is just a waste.  Oh, and with the economy in the crapper, give them the time off so they can spend more money and get into debt more so that they have to keep working for you!  So vacation = employee loyalty due to spending beyond their means.

Christmas wrap up

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Too much paper from the whole xmas thing. It seems that we are also recycling the bags that xmas presents come in, therefore destroying the xmas bag industry.  I would guess we have more than 50 of them, so if you are going to give us a present, ask in advance for a bag to put it in, and we’ll save you the regifting of your bag that you got from someone else. Isn’t christmas wonderful
