Upgrade Time - Front Loader washer and dryer…

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Well folks… the old washer and dryer are getting long in the tooth.  Whirlpool?  LG?  Electrolux? Sears? Who knows anything about these and so forth…

We have a daily load with the two kids, plus you get the random smelly tennis and golf clothes in there from both me and the wife.  Kids have poo stained clothes now and then, plus their usual applesauce covered overalls, onesies, etc…

Sprint EVDO card for the mac

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Folks, i’m on a evdo u727 card sitting in a suburb of philadelphia.   it works quite well, i am impressed.   Now, if you had to pay for it yourself, might not be worth it unless you are rich.

So if you travel to hotels, and airports, do the math:

call it $60/month for evdo

Call it $10 for a hotel or airport internet access each time/ per 24 hours…

Do the math, 6x equals you are a head with a evdo card and you have more reliable service, plus if you ever  needed to, you could use it in the car in a parking lot, while waiting for someone, etc…  Doctor’s office, you name it…   Go buy one!

In a marriage balance career risks

Monday, January 12th, 2009

So i’m thinking about everyone with 2 working incomes, the DINC so to speak, or whatever the abbrevation for Dual Income No Children or with children, the DI part is what matters… Anyway… If you are a single income family this is easy, get stable on the one income… But if you have dual incomes, and you have some talent, one of you should take a step in one direction and the other one should go the other way.  What do i mean by that? Curious George, Max & Ruby or Franklin? Pick your poison

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

So we tape (DVR) a few shows for our 2.5 year old to watch. Having previewed the series i find some disturbing trends in each of them and a few lessons learned. Given that he seems to have bailed on Thomas & Friends, as well as Sesame Street, i had to find some other options. They all have some drawbacks, here’s a rundown of the 3 we are on these days, Curious George (a destructive monkey), Max & Ruby (2 bunnies that don’t seem to have parents) and Franklin (a turtle who has a name but none of his friends do).

Women need reliable cars, doods don’t

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

So i got a beater car. It is a 1999 vw passat. There are scraps on both sides of it, and it hasn’t been washed in a long time. It has 50k miles on it, so that is basically 5k miles a year, quite low. I drive 4 miles each way to work, more or less 4 days a week, plus various trips to the airport (17 each way) and other offices now and then. We also have a new 2008 Subaru Outback. (more…)

Big houses = big commutes. Little houses = little commutes… You choose the right one for you

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Now is a great time to buy if you can qualify for a loan and certainly… look forward a few years to your career and savings, etc… if you are able to maintain mortgage payments, etc… That goes without saying. But there is more to it, and that has to do with commuting. So what exactly is important to you, your spouse and your future? There are a couple of key questions when weighing the options… (more…)

A dumb person learns from their own mistakes, a smart one learns from others… How to eat before flying, the right way…

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

So you need to fly across the USA, or to/from Europe. Generally flights to Europe from the USA leave at night. Flights from Europe leave in the morning. What is your food game plan? Are you going to eat the mush they have on the plane? There are some options of mystery cooked in what country, with a side of glop. You wanna eat that? Come on, that is some junk for the people who eat without thinking. You deserve better, and there is better/ a better technique. Here’s the secret: (more…)

Regrets in Technology & a Car

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

It had to happen.  Buyer’s remorse?  I don’t know.  Here they are, as best as i can guess… Most recent first…

Apple Time Capsule.  Maybe i just got a dud and it is standard that they need rebooting all the time, regardless, mine must need a firmware upgrade.  Could be my old PowerBook G4 from the 1980’s or whenever they came out.   What didn’t suck?  Linksys (when is cisco going to just rename them?).  I still got the old one and it worked perfectly with dynamic dns’s product. Christmas party scheduling

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Keep in mind, when scheduling a christmas party, you need to see when others have theirs and how many per day someone can make.  Geography, time of the day, food, who else will be there, etc… all factor in.  For us it will be December 13th from 4-7.  This offers a pre-dinner snackie and no one will be there too late.  This is key cause we have kids.  Stragglers will be feed delivered pizza or life cereal.  This is the plan.  I thought about using an ipv6 mailserver to send out the invites, but realized that with no gateway to the ipv4 world, no one will get the invite…
