My new 15″ macbook pro

February 4th, 2009

Uh… nice…   was going to get the 13, but basically i need that 2 inches, did the amortization over 3 years and figured it was an extra 300/year, or say $6 week…   You get the idea…

Now… I need a wrist pad wrest, as it scratches AND scratches my watch and we don’t want that watch scratched further, as the old g4 powerbook ate some of that metal for some hot metal on metal love.

You get the idea.. .More later.. very exciting..

In a marriage balance career risks

January 12th, 2009

So i’m thinking about everyone with 2 working incomes, the DINC so to speak, or whatever the abbrevation for Dual Income No Children or with children, the DI part is what matters… Anyway… If you are a single income family this is easy, get stable on the one income… But if you have dual incomes, and you have some talent, one of you should take a step in one direction and the other one should go the other way.  What do i mean by that? Hotel Chains take notice….

January 8th, 2009

Folks, this is not rocket science, here is a start of things to enhance your hotel experience for your customers…

  1. Make the sink near the shower so you can use the same soap and save on resources
  2. Make sure the heating or ac system is not loud at all.  it needs a variable speed fan that the user can adjust
  3. Make sure there are plenty of power outlets.  I’m sitting in a hotel room today with a laptop plugged into the outlet on the lamp (good move) and the cell phone plugged into the bathroom’s outlet (bad move)

There are probably hundreds of points i could put out, but i think it is better to start with some reasonable ones that at least can be knocked off so there is some progress. I’ll think of more things later…

Hotel Television Cable Systems - They Suck

January 5th, 2009

So i am sitting here and stewing about various things, like usual. What should i rag on? Well, it is a universally, obvious problem. the tv systems suck and it has few channels and few benefits, and they make all their money off of pay per view porn. So for all of us that have to suffer through their crappy system, we have to watch a limited set of channels, with some useless info channels that add no value, etc… why not just bail on all that crud and just get direct tv, or comcast, etc.???   Cable of any sort has to be better than the lowsy “system” they use to try to get you into just using and buying some porn, which people are probably all just downloading now a days anyway to save money!

United Airline’s Award Winning Magazine

January 5th, 2009

So i sit there on the plane across the country… It is crowded and there is little leg room in the trailor park part of coach seating. So at some point i pick up the magazine in the back of the seat pocket.  It clearly has some sort of stained liquid on it so i swap it for the neighbor’s. And what a surprise… It is an award winning magazine!  What award it won, i got no idea. In fact who the hell cares, and who the hell decides that any shitty airline magazine would win anything in the first place?  Someone find United airlines and answer me! The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - financial advisors, the big 3

January 4th, 2009

There are 3 big name financial advisors that seem to make the news in the DC market, whether it is on radio or tv, or what have you. They are Ric Edelman, Dave Ramsey and Suzie Orman. Basically, you can find each of their books at any major book store, find them on tv, in the papers, radio, etc… My synopsis is as follows: Read the rest of this entry »

Vendor Chotckis (however you spell it)

January 2nd, 2009

So, i have been thinking about this a lot. In the past i had the following for requirements for giving away freebies as a company to customers, this was 10 years ago so things have changed a bit, because the audience has changed. So this was the original requirements list: Read the rest of this entry »

My French Dream - in retirement…

December 31st, 2008

So i was thinking what would be a really nice retirement. I have it in my mind, i just don’t know if it exists, given a few problems. First some background. In the 1988 i had a small apartment (5th floor walk up) in Aix en Province… I even remember the address, 13 rue de la glacier. Man, i pulled that out of deep memory. Anyway, thinking back to those years and my awful spoken french, i think i have an ideal retirement. Read the rest of this entry »

Curious George, Max & Ruby or Franklin? Pick your poison

December 31st, 2008

So we tape (DVR) a few shows for our 2.5 year old to watch. Having previewed the series i find some disturbing trends in each of them and a few lessons learned. Given that he seems to have bailed on Thomas & Friends, as well as Sesame Street, i had to find some other options. They all have some drawbacks, here’s a rundown of the 3 we are on these days, Curious George (a destructive monkey), Max & Ruby (2 bunnies that don’t seem to have parents) and Franklin (a turtle who has a name but none of his friends do).

Women need reliable cars, doods don’t

December 30th, 2008

So i got a beater car. It is a 1999 vw passat. There are scraps on both sides of it, and it hasn’t been washed in a long time. It has 50k miles on it, so that is basically 5k miles a year, quite low. I drive 4 miles each way to work, more or less 4 days a week, plus various trips to the airport (17 each way) and other offices now and then. We also have a new 2008 Subaru Outback.
